SoundScience Seeks Partner/s - September 2009

Soundscience are seeking partner/s to distribute BarnOwl on a worldwide basis. We expect our partner to truly understand the value directional noise monitoring can provide their clients and be able to provide turnkey monitoring solutions.

BarnOwl Version 5 Update - Important New features - May 2009

Version 5 of the BarnOwl® software, which is currently under development, is looking to incorporate significant advances in acoustic and communications technology. Some of the enhancements include:

• detecting the complete spectrum of sound arriving from a selected direction. This represents a major advance in BarnOwl’s sound detection capabilities, and provides another level of information for use in source identification.

• real-time data from the field unit available directly in industry-standard OPC format. This provides a new level of flexibility – receivers, including mobile receivers, can directly connect to a field unit using standard software and protocols to display directional sound levels in real time.

Version 5 software is expected to be released in 2010.

NATA Calibration Now Available for BarnOwl - April 2009
SoundScience can now organise for the acoutical components of the BarnOwl® system to be NATA calibrated as a whole as a non integrating sound level meter. This provides certainty about the acoustical accuracy of the hardware and software.

BarnOwl Available as Remote Station - August 2008

BarnOwl is now available in an "industrial pc" format which means the need for site sheds and mains power can be reduced or eliminated. The unit has succssfully operated in a temperature controlled environment between 40-50 degrees with no apparent change in performance.

SoundScience Receives Commercial Ready Plus Grant - January 2008

SoundScience is pleased to announce that BarnOwl® has received an AusIndustry Commercial Ready Plus grant to assist in the development of the next version of this patented technology.

BarnOwl® Accepted into Australian Technology Showcase - December 2007

BarnOwl® Version 4 is the most recent version of the BarnOwl® system and was developed to provide customers with improvements that include new features to enhance BarnOwl's® capabilities and reliability enhancements to reduce unscheduled maintenance time.

New Features
Directional monitoring of filtered noise levels now available
Audio streaming integrated into the BarnOwl® software to improve quality
Percentile noise levels for directional data – values of L10, L5, L1 and Lmax can now be determined in addition to Leq
Analysis of recorded audio files means report generator can generate narrow band, third octave and octave band spectra from saved audio files
Database support extended to Microsoft SQL Server

Reliability Enhancements
Improved network communications protocol – communications between the Field Unit and remote computers now use TCP/IP sockets rather than file transfers, reducing the risk of communications failure and providing better error recovery, as well as reducing network traffic.
Improved reporting of network errors – increases the number of network errors captured and provides more user friendly error messages.
Microsoft DotNet framework – use of this program framework allows simpler distribution of patches and updates to the software.

BarnOwl® available in 12v low power version - February 2007

SoundScience is pleased to announce that BarnOwl® is now available in a 12v low power mobile version based on the Sinus Soundbook technology (which incorporates a Panasonic Toughbook).
